Our goal is to raise $10k+ for Canada’s first ever simulation centre, Sunnybrook Canadian Simulation Centre. Simulation is the safest, most effective way for medical professionals to learn the latest techniques. They’re now using highly advanced technologies to take simulation to the next level, bringing virtual reality to our learners and patients.
The Sunnybrook Canadian Simulation Centre trains 4,500 learners a year, ranging from nurses and respiratory therapists to dietitians and surgeons. Staff, residents, fellows and students all take part.
For example, before performing complex techniques on patients, such as breast reconstructions, surgeons practise and become skilled on a mannequin. Simulations have also helped Sunnybrook identify gaps and improve practices, resulting in reduced infection rates.
These simulations have helped us develop protocols, including protective clothing requirements for clinicians treating patients with Ebola, which have been adopted by all Ontario hospitals.
In addition to updating equipment, the funds will be used to develop a temporary virtual reality lab. Here, Sunnybrook will be collaborating with software developers to create virtual experiences to enhance staff learning and to ease patient anxieties and improve outcomes. Patients have reported reduced anxiety and greater comfort after viewing this virtual reality scenario.
In October 2016, the Sunnybrook Canadian Simulation Centre (SCSC) received accreditation from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada for the next five years. It is the first centre in Ontario and the third in Canada to be re-accredited by the Royal College.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRS
On behalf of SNG, welcome! Your interest in our mission and goals is what fuels us to support Sunnybrook’s highest priority needs.
Since 2014, SNG has consistently demonstrated itself as an organization capable of achieving tremendous success across a wide range of fundraising, community engagement and educational outreach initiatives. With the collective efforts of our executive, committees and general membership, we strive to educate the next generation of Sunnybrook’s community leaders, while raising critical funds to help Sunnybrook remain at the forefront of medical innovation – both now and for decades to come.
We are extremely excited about launching SNG’s newest event, the SNG Charity Poker Tournament. We hope the event will be a recurring annual event. The event will provide an excellent platform for SNG to continue developing its committed group of influential community leaders, while supporting Sunnybrook.
Your support means the world to us and with your help, we look forward to launching this exciting annual franchise in support of Sunnybrook Hospital. Thank you for support and we hope you’ll join us on April 18th for a night of fun and inspiration!
Many thanks for the remainder of the SNG Charity Poker Tournament Committee for helping us put this event together - Jesse Buckstein, Luke Galli, Evan Lyons and Kayla Provenzano!
